THE name ‘Mambo Dhuterere’ has appeared on a Zimbabwe Republic Police wanted list for a series of armed robberies in Harare, Ruwa and Rusape, sparking confusion over whether it is gospel star Darlington Mutseta.
Police said Mambo Dhuterere is one of four suspects still at large, alongside Khule Diva, Kasongo and Senior Gama.
The reference is notable because Mambo Dhuterere is the stage name of popular gospel musician Darlington Mutseta, known for hits Dare Guru, Mweya Ndisesekedzeand Moyo Muti.
However, the police statement does not identify the suspect by Mutseta’s real name, ID number, age, or state that the musician is the person being sought. No photograph was provided.
The name emerged as police announced the arrest of three men Tinei Makaripe (47), Pungurayi Mukambachaza and Gabriel Mukambachaza (41) in connection with the robberies.
According to police, the latest incident occurred at about 12:30am on 13 September at a company in Borders Estate, Ruwa, where US$108,000 was allegedly stolen after workers were attacked and restrained.
“On 13th September 2026 at around 0030 hours, the suspects and their accomplices, who are still at large, allegedly pounced at a company at Borders Estate, Ruwa and stole USD 108 000.00 cash after attacking and restraining company workers,” police said.
Makaripe was allegedly caught by company workers after falling while trying to scale the perimeter wall as the suspects fled.
Detectives later arrested Pungurayi Mukambachaza in Damofalls Phase 1, Harare, recovering US$4,900 allegedly hidden in his vehicle.
Gabriel Mukambachaza was arrested at his rural home in Rusape, where police said they recovered US$5,000, two pistols, ammunition, handcuffs, fuse cables, explosives and three balaclavas.
One of the firearms, a Tokarev pistol, was allegedly stolen during a March 12 robbery at a steel company in Southerton.
Police have linked the group to four other armed robberies, including a January 26 raid at a beverages company in Rusape where US$39,828, a Star pistol, pepper spray and cellphones were taken, and the March 12 Southerton steel company robbery where US$14,118 was stolen.
All four named suspects remain at large.
Meanwhile, police in Bulawayo are investigating the murder and robbery of businessman Tadius Rutanhire (52), who was shot dead on 14 September near a service station along JMN Nkomo Street after closing his shop. His bag containing US$10,000 was allegedly taken.
