Afro-Fusion Dominates as Chibuku Road to Fame 2025 Prepares for Epic Finale

THE beat of Zimbabwean music is changing, and the Chibuku Road to Fame 2025 talent search is leading the charge.
Over the weekend, provincial finals in Mashonaland East, Manicaland, and Masvingo showcased how Afro-fusion is emerging as the dominant sound in the country’s music scene.
In Mashonaland East and Manicaland, Mnenga Band turned heads with their Afro-fusion flair, winning US$2,500 and a place at the national grand finale this October. Following closely were Watsomba Stars, a Sungura group, and ASG Band, representing traditional music, who took second and third with US$1,500 and US$1,000 respectively.
Masvingo’s competition echoed the same trend. Afro Pulse claimed the top spot, Afro Beatz finished second, and Doctors Band, a Rhumba Afro ensemble, took third. The weekend made it clear: Afro-fusion is no longer just a style—it’s a movement, blending Zimbabwe’s cultural roots with modern rhythms to create a sound that is unmistakably local and powerfully fresh.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Chibuku Road to Fame has long been Zimbabwe’s launching pad for new talent. The revamped 2025 format consolidates provincial rounds into six major competitions, each sending three acts to the national stage, all competing for US$15,000 and a recording contract at the grand finale.
