Almassri Denounces Israeli Attack on Gaza, Urges International Intervention
PALESTINE’S Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr. Tamer Almassri has condemned Israeli forces’ recent attack in Beit Lahia, North of Gaza Strip, which left 90 Palestinians dead and dozens injured.
He described the incident as an “extension of genocide crimes” and urged the United Nations to take action.
Almassri’s plea comes after a devastating weekend of violence. As the Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, his voice carries significant weight, and he has consistently condemned Israel’s actions. Previously, Almassri’s own family was affected by the conflict, with his mother killed in an attack in Khan Younis city in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, Dr Almassri said the continuous Israeli military actions in Beit Lahia, which have resulted in the loss of lives, and destroyed schools, hospitals, roads and universities, reflect the “failure of the international community to maintain its legitimacy and integrity”.
The diplomat called upon the international community to impose stiffer sanctions against Israel, insisting the UN Security Council must protect the Palestinian people and deliver humanitarian aid in Gaza.
“The massacres in Beit Lahia and Jabalia reflect the failure of the international community to respect its legitimacy and decisions as apartheid Israel continues with its genocidal crimes that include starvation and forced migration, destruction and blowing of buildings, aerial bombardment, targeting all health centres, and committing more heinous massacres.
“These massacres should be faced with a decisive international action to stop it immediately, including through imposing an arms embargo and effective sanctions.
“The state of Palestine calls on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities and impose an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, provide international protection for the Palestinian people, and ensure the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip. Failure to stop these massacres is a shame on the whole international community,” he said.
According to Dr. Almassri the Palestinian death toll from the Israeli onslaught has risen to 42 697 reported fatalities, with an additional 99 759 individuals sustaining injuries. The majority of the victims are women and children.
