Delta Corporation Funds Cancer Screening and Education in Masvingo Prisons

DELTA Corporation Limited, in partnership with the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe (CAZ), has launched a cancer education and screening campaign across prisons in Masvingo Province, aiming to address critical healthcare gaps for incarcerated individuals.

The initiative, supported by a USD 10,000 grant from Delta Corporation, provided breast, cervical, and prostate cancer education and screenings to inmates at nine correctional facilities, including Masvingo Remand, Mutimurefu, and Chikombedzi prisons.

A total of 282 inmates participated in the program, which focused on early detection methods and self-examination techniques to combat late-stage cancer diagnoses, a leading cause of global mortality.

Cancer remains a major public health challenge in Zimbabwe, with delayed diagnosis often worsening outcomes.

Prison populations face heightened barriers to accessing timely healthcare, making targeted interventions essential. The campaign included educational sessions to empower inmates with knowledge of risk factors, prevention, and self-examination practices.

“This project is a step toward empowering vulnerable communities in the fight against cancer,” said Patricia Murambinda, Delta Corporation’s General Manager for Corporate Affairs. “By providing education and screenings, we aim to reduce morbidity, save lives, and improve quality of life through timely, evidence-based interventions.”

The initiative aligns with global efforts to prioritize cancer awareness in underserved populations. Screenings were conducted by CAZ medical teams, with referrals for further care provided to those requiring additional treatment.

Delta Corporation emphasized its commitment to sustainable health initiatives, noting that the program reflects its broader corporate social responsibility goals. Details of the campaign are available on the company’s website.
