Zimbos Dreaming Big in UPSL

MIKHAIL White and Kunashe Walter Manyewu, two promising soccer talents from Zimbabwe, are currently making a name for themselves in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) as members of the Katy Jaguars. Both players have previously honed their skills with youth academies in the United States and Europe, and they are now eager to take their careers to the next level.

White, 20, has already gained experience with Houston Dynamos youth side, PSG academy, and the Houston Katy Tigers. His move to the UPSL has provided him with new opportunities and excitement, as he has proven to be a valuable player on both the right and left attack.

“Playing in the USA is a great privilege and a wonderful experience,” White said. “There are so many opportunities here, and it’s an amazing feeling to play in a league and country that truly appreciates sports.”

Manyewu, who has also played in South Africa, is thrilled to be in the United States and sees it as a dream come true. He has been a solid contributor for the Algie Martin-coached Katy Jaguars and is grateful for the high level of competition that the UPSL offers.

“Playing in the United States is a dream come true, especially coming from Zimbabwe and having played in South Africa during my earliest days,” Manyewu said. “The level of competition is not easy, but it requires a focused mind and a strong work ethic.”

White had the opportunity to participate in Manchester United trials in 2023, although the outcome was not what he had hoped for. However, he remains optimistic about the future and is grateful for the valuable experience that the opportunity provided.

“As a player, you’re always going to have opportunities come your way, and some will work out while others won’t,” White said. “I was fortunate enough to participate in Manchester United trials, and even though it didn’t go as planned, I was still able to learn and grow from the experience.”

The Katy Jaguars have had a successful season so far, with six wins, two draws, and only one loss. They have scored a total of 27 goals, with South American talent Daniel Vergas leading the charge with 17 goals and White close behind with three goals.

Overall, White and Manyewu are two exciting young players to watch in the UPSL, and they both have big dreams for their futures in the sport.
