Global Motocross Stars Unite in Zimbabwe for Surge Summer Series Finale

AS the dust settled on the Donnybrook motocross track, riders from around the world celebrated the culmination of the 2024 Surge Summer Series, a thriller of speed, skill, and sportsmanship. The prestigious event, sponsored by Surge Energy Drink, Betterbrands Petroleum, and RK Fuels, among others, brought together an impressive field of international riders, with Africa well-represented by participants from South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.

Australian sensation Matt Moss stole the show, dominating the MX1 class with a clean sweep of all nine events, including six supercross races. Moss’s impressive performance earned him a total of 180 points, leaving American Jake Masterpool and Austrian Michael Kratzer in his wake. But it was Moss’s enthusiasm for the event’s atmosphere that truly shone through.

“The energy of the crowd was electric,” Moss beamed. “I’ve had an amazing time here in Zimbabwe, and I’m already planning to bring more Aussie riders with me next year. The talent I’ve seen among the local kids is incredible – I hope my win inspires them to chase their dreams!”

In other categories, Austrian Ricardo Bauer triumphed in the 125cc motocross class, while South African Brody Bircher took top honours in the 85cc class. Young British rider Cohen Jagielski dominated the 65cc class, and George Hutchings romped to victory in the 50cc class.

The event’s organizers, including Selina Marira, were effusive in their praise for the sponsors and riders who made the Surge Summer Series a success. “We’re grateful for the incredible support from our sponsors and the racing community,” Marira said. “Next year, we’re aiming to stage an even bigger and better event, with a schedule that avoids clashes with other international competitions, so we can attract even more top riders from around the world.”

As the motocross bids farewell to the 2024 Surge Summer Series, one thing is clear, this event has cemented its place as a must-attend fixture on the global motocross calendar.
