IN The Heart Women Soccer League match that will be remembered for its high-scoring drama, Herentals Queens staged a remarkable comeback to trounce Highlanders Royals 7-3 at Old Hararians Sports Club on Saturday.
Highlanders started strong when Patience Ndlovu found the back of the net in the fifth minute, putting Bosso ahead. However, Polite Mabika equalised for Herentals just eight minutes later, setting the stage for a thrilling contest. The first half ended with Millanda Chimbwanda and Shyline Dambamuromo scoring crucial goals for The Students, leading to a 3-1 advantage at the break.
The second half saw Praynance Zvawanda netting immediately after the break, but Highlanders responded through Trish Muparadzi’s 55th-minute strike, narrowing the deficit to 4-2. Zvawanda completed her double in the 58th minute, while Nyasha Munemo added Herentals’ sixth goal in the 68th minute.
Highlanders scored two late goals, first through Thando Sibanda and then an own goal by Thubekile Mtambo, but Herentals emerged victorious in this 10-goal thriller.
In another Saturday match, Loyce Shereni’s 40th-minute strike sealed Conduit Soccer Academy Queens’ 1-0 victory over Sheasham Gweru Queens at Mudhindo Grounds. Sheasham’s Doreen Njara and Talent Chimbadzo received yellow cards in either half as the visitors pushed aggressively for an equalizer, but Conduit’s resilient defence held firm to secure maximum points.
Chapungu registered a 2-0 victory over Black Mambas in a match that was marred by controversy at Manyame Grounds. Mitchell Mhlanga doubled Chapungu’s lead, leaving Mambas struggling to find footing. The match took a dramatic turn in the 69th minute when Mambas’ captain, Belinda Sibanda, received a yellow card, sparking a heated exchange. Head coach Innocent Nyoni’s abusive language earned him a red card, forcing him to exit the dugout.
This victory for Chapungu was a rematch of the inaugural Heart Women Soccer League Tournament final, where they won 4-0 just a fortnight ago.
