WALTER Magaya, the president of of the Heart Group, the sponsors of the just ended Women’s Soccer League tournament, has described the tournament a “resounding success”.
Chapungu Queens were crowned champions on the back of an impressive 4-0 victory over Black Mambas Queens at the Heart Stadium in the capita this Sunday.
The tournament brought together 16 teams from the Zimbawe Women’s Soccer League, with all of whom them being accommodated at the Yadah Hotel for the duration of the event.
The organization and attention to detail was evident throughout the tournament, providing an exceptional experience to all participants.
But the Heart League Tournament was also an opportunity to give back to the community.
On the final day of the tournament, all winning teams and outstanding players in various categories received monetary prizes and trophies sponsored by former Dynamos vice chairperson and Beach Soccer Zimbabwe board member, Vincent Chawonza through his company, Open Gold Investments.
“I am over the moon at having plus or minus 800 people in one place and also being able to achieve what we have achieved and I am quite excited that the stadium was full. It is an achievement for us,” said Magaya
“I can’t really put a value to it, but food for 800 people, breakfast, lunch and supper for five days staying at a hotel, you can calculate on your own. The value will tell you that we have well surpassed the $320 000 we had promised for this league. We are way above that.
“We are not complaining because the results are amazing, look at the joy the kids have, look at the team that finished third, Herentals are celebrating meaning that they are cherishing even their third position.”
Magaya wants to spread his tentacles further into men’s football if he is allowed by the powers that be.
“If we are allowed, we want to set the same mood, same vibe into the men’s league as well. I don’t know if we are going to allowed. If we are allowed we want to throw it into different divisions, Northern, Eastern and Southern regions, so that we can have the vibe of football coming back to our country.”
“The Heart Grouup is willing to go beyond this league and support even the boys.” he added.
