PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to officially commission the state-of-the-art E.D Mnangagwa Law School at Midlands State University (MSU) in Kwekwe today, marking a significant milestone for the institution and the region.
The event coincides with MSU’s 26th graduation ceremony – the first to be held outside the main Gweru campus – which President Mnangagwa, as Chancellor of State Universities, will preside over.
Thousands of graduands, beaming with pride and accompanied by their families, have converged on the new Kwekwe campus in anticipation of the President’s arrival. The atmosphere is electric with excitement and academic fervor as students prepare to receive their hard-earned qualifications.
Named after President Mnangagwa, a lawyer by profession, the law school sits on land donated by Kwekwe City Council and features cutting-edge facilities including an e-library equipped with digital resources and a moot court designed for simulated legal proceedings.
The two-storey law school building houses 110 rooms comprising modern lecture theatres, moot courts, a comprehensive library, student accommodation, a kitchen, a medical centre catering to student health needs, and spacious staff residences.
It’s designed to give law students invaluable hands-on experience, sharpen their research skills, and provide exposure to real-world court proceedings, preparing them for successful legal careers. Additionally, the facility will also host the Faculties of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and the Built Environment, fostering interdisciplinary academic pursuits.
The campus’s development has transformed the local area from a rural setting into a bustling commercial hub. Infrastructure upgrades include an improved road linking Kwekwe’s central business district to the campus, benefiting local farmers and commuters.
Around 6,000 graduands are expected to receive their awards from President Mnangagwa during the ceremony. The event underscores MSU’s growth and commitment to providing quality education in Zimbabwe.
