Raza Propells Tigers To Roaring Victory

SIKANDAR Raza’s unbeaten half-ton propelled Joburg Bangla Tigers to a 37-run victory over Bulawayo Braves Jaguars in the second game of the day in the Zim Afro T10 sixth day at Harare Sports Club on Thursday.

Raza’s masterclass, coupled with Hazratullah Zazai’s equally impressive 49*, formed the backbone of the Tigers’ imposing 128/2, which ultimately proved too steep for the Jaguars to climb.

The Zimbabwean all-rounder, who has been in scintillating form of late, continued his rich vein of form, exhibiting his incredible range of shots and ability to adapt to the conditions. Raza’s 51* off just 28 deliveries was a treat to watch, as he effortlessly dispatched the Jaguars’ bowlers to all corners of the ground. His partnership with Zazai was a sight to behold, with the two batsmen complementing each other beautifully to stitch together an unbeaten 108-run stand for the third wicket.

In response, Jaguars’ top order struggled to find their footing, with David Warner, the captain and star batsman, falling prey to Tinashe Muchawaya’s guile for the second time in the tournament. Jaguars’ innings never really gained momentum, with George Linde’s three-wicket haul further stifling their progress.

Carlos Brathwaite’s 18 was the highest score for the Jaguars, as they limped to 91/9 in their allotted 10 overs.

Raza’s all-round brilliance was the difference between the two teams, as he not only top-scored for the Tigers but also played a crucial role in setting the tone for their dominant performance. He also held on to a catch at midwicket for the dismissal of Warner off Muchawaya’s bowling.

His leadership and batting prowess have been instrumental in the Tigers’ success in the tournament so far.

As the Jaguars reflect on their disappointing performance, they will know that they came up against a team firing on all cylinders, led by a batsman in Raza who is in the form of his life.
