Retail Sector Welcomes Govenment Move to Slash Business Expenses in Zimbabwe
CONFEDERATION of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) has hailed recent government reforms targeting business cost reduction, viewing them as a pivotal move to enhance the country’s economic competitiveness.
In a press statement released yesterday CZR President Denford Mutashu noted that the measures underscored the authorities’ dedication to fostering an administration that is receptive, responsive, and focused on reforms to nurture business growth.
“The recently announced comprehensive reforms in the agriculture value chain, as well as the decisive directive by the Minister of Finance… to cut parking fees by 50% across local authorities, are clear evidence that Government is walking the talk on the Ease and Cost of Doing Business agenda,” Mutashu said.
Mutashu pointed out that the agricultural reforms would deliver ‘significant relief’ to farmers, processing firms, and smallholder enterprises, boosting their operations.”
These include cuts to export registration, health and safety compliance costs, environmental fees and other levies.
He said that these measures would contribute to stronger rural livelihoods, better food security, and increased productivity, also giving a boost to linked sectors including retail, tourism, and transport.
“They address longstanding challenges that have constrained enterprise development, including excessive compliance costs, duplication of permits and disproportionate regulatory burdens,” he said.
As per the CZR head, the reforms deliver a strong indication that Zimbabwe is receptive to business, courting local entrepreneurs as well as international investment.
He stated the measures are critical for driving competitiveness, creating employment opportunities, stimulating business formalisation, and accelerating progress towards Vision 2030, Zimbabwe’s goal of becoming an upper-middle-income society
“We stand prepared to collaborate with Government on implementing these measures and achieving their intended outcomes for all stakeholders, as the retail and wholesale sector,” Mutashu remarked.
He lauded the government’s leadership, noting it ‘sparks confidence, bolsters partnerships, and hastens Zimbabwe’s economic trajectory’.
Recently, Government of Zimbabwe significantly reduced regulatory fees for farmers involved in livestock, dairy, and stockfeed production. Aiming to lower business costs and enhance productivity in an effort to support agricultural growth, empowering farmers and positioning Zimbabwe as a competitive player in regional and global market.
