SANY, a big construction equipment company from China, has launched its new electric trucks and machines in Zimbabwe. The launch took place on Monday in Beitbridge at Palm River Industrial Park.
At the event, SANY showed how these electric machines can help Zimbabwean companies save money, especially on fuel. Some of the trucks can save up to $100,000 per year compared to diesel trucks.
Taku Mandireva, SANY’s Key Accounts Manager in Zimbabwe, said the electric machines cost more to buy, but they are much cheaper to run. He said most companies can get their money back in just one year because of the savings.
SANY introduced three types of electric machines: road trucks, dump trucks (tippers), and front-end loaders.
The electric road trucks, called SE588 and SE860, can travel up to 440 km and 600 km on one full battery. They charge in just 45 minutes and come with a 5-year battery warranty.
The electric dump trucks, named 6×4 Charging 320 and 8×4 Charging 440, are built to carry heavy loads. They are strong, waterproof, and made from high-quality steel. In Thailand, one mining company saved $60,000 a year by using these trucks and moved 80,000 more tons of ore.
The front-end loaders, SW956E and SW966E, are used for lifting materials like coal or sand. They can run for 7 hours after a 1-hour charge. One electric loader can save over $40,000 a year compared to a diesel loader. At Palm River Industrial Park, four electric loaders already in use are saving over $200,000 a year.
SANY also showed off mobile charging trucks called DianTu, which can take electricity to places without power. These charging trucks can charge six machines at once and are useful in remote areas like mines and farms. SANY also builds solar power systems for companies that want to use clean energy.
SANY was started in 1989 and now works in over 180 countries. In 2024, it made over $20 billion and became the third biggest construction machine company in the world. Its business in Africa is growing fast, and a new factory in South Africa will open in September.
Mr. Mandireva ended the event by saying SANY wants to help Zimbabwe grow in a clean and smart way.
“Quality changes the world,” he said. “With these electric machines, we can help build a better future for Zimbabwe.”
