SRC suspends ZRU executive board and committee

SPORTS and Recreation Commission (SRC) has announced the suspension of the remaining members of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) National Executive Board and the National Executive Committee from all forms of rugby administration and activities in Zimbabwe.

This follows a resolution of the SRC Board of Commissioners passed earlier this month that the remaining ZRU board members should resign or face stringent measures.

“The suspension is in terms of section 30 (1) (b) and (c) (i) as read with section 19 (a), (b) and (c), and paragraph 23 of the second schedule of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act (Chapter 25:15) and shall remain effective until the next Zimbabwe Rugby Union elections.

“The Zimbabwe Rugby Union is a registered National Association in terms of section 29(4) of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act. As a registered National Association, the ZRU has failed to conform to section 29(8)(b) of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act.

The SRC issued a show cause order on the 4th of September 2025, which resulted in the resignation of 8 members of the ZRU National Executive Board. No representations were filed by the remaining members of the ZRU National Executive Board, hence the SRC invoked section 30 of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act.

“The SRC will advise the nation on the strategic direction of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union,” read the letter from the SRC.

The ZRU is currently under the leadership of acting president, Tapfuma Parirenyatwa, who initially resigned from his position but reversed the decision a week later.
