UNHERALDED Masvingo based artiste TK Masiko, real name Takudzwa Masiko, has been making waves in the local music industry with his unique blend of Contemporary gospel & sungura.
With an impressive discography of 4 officially released albums and 3 singles, TK Masiko has established himself as a force to be reckoned with.
In an interview, with our Arts reporter Prince Meke, TK Masiko shared his perspective on his musical journey and the impact he hopes to make through his music.
He expressed his unwavering determination to stay true to his artistic vision, despite facing criticism along the way.
He firmly believes that pushing boundaries and experimenting with different genres is the key to success.
“I am TK Masiko, a creative genius who finds solace in the realm of music.”
“It is my duty to express my life’s journey, along with the experiences of those around me,” he said.
“Despite my reserved nature, music grants me the ability to communicate and forge connections.”
“My songwriting predominantly revolves around authentic accounts of real-life encounters that resonate with individuals from all walks of life.”
TK Masiko said growing up in a family that values moral principles, he understood the significance of decency.
“I, therefore, feel a profound responsibility to share my knowledge and experiences to contribute to a better world,” he said.
TK Masiko has been gaining recognition for his hit songs, including collaborations such as “Chema nhamo” featuring Innocent Chidamajaya Munondo, “Handide kudzokera shure,” “Zvinoda Kunamata,” “Gehena handidi,” “Chema Nhamo” featuring Gwinyai Gwimbo” and he is cooking something big featuring top decorated artist in the country.
Behind TK Masiko’s success is his collaboration with his ‘wife’ in the music industry, Mary Mukwena, also known as Mai Masiko.
Together, they have created a powerful partnership, with TK Masiko focusing on the visual aspects of their projects, including scriptwriting, directing, shooting, and editing, while Mai Masiko handles all the production.
Looking ahead, TK Masiko is eager to collaborate with more artistes who share his passion for creating meaningful and inspiring music.
“I hope to work with more artistes who have the vision to inspire and use music to connect.”
“I hope to work with acclaimed artistes such as Charles Charamba, Benny Muzanenhamo, Orbert Chari, Mathias Mhere, Prince Chigwida and even international sensation Sinach, among others,” he said.
