IN a heartwarming celebration at the Bulawayo Public Library, the Ubuntu Queens soccer team honoured their achievements with an awards ceremony and a major sponsorship announcement.
The team is set to receive a significant boost in support for the 2025 season, thanks to a new partnership with Securico. And there’s more good news on the horizon – Director Litu Moyo hinted at the possible return of sponsorship from My Destiny Inc., which would further bolster the team’s resources.
Guest of honour Silenkosi Moyo, Regional Director of the National Art Gallery Bulawayo, presented medals to the players and emphasized the importance of discipline in achieving success, both on and off the field. “Your commitment to your craft is what sets you apart,” she urged the athletes.
The ceremony also saw ZIFA Southern Region Women’s Soccer Chair Mr. Takundwa Chimundiya praise Securico’s sponsorship, calling on more corporate partners to support women’s soccer teams in the region. Sibekiwe Ndlovu, Director of Lobengula City Queens and an aspiring ZIFA board member, echoed the sentiment, stressing the need for teams to balance academics and athletics.
The night’s highlights included a slew of awards presented to outstanding players. Beverly Charumbira took home the coveted Player of the Year award, while Ayanda Mhlanga was named Young Player of the Year. Lee Anne Mlilo was honoured as Goalkeeper of the Year, and Sibusisiwe Moyo received the Most Promising Player award. Coach Admire Mafukuta Sibanda was recognized as Coach of the Year, and Felecia Kaunza was celebrated for her Academic Excellence. Pinky Mpofu received the Well-Groomed/Smartness Award, and Shantel Siziba was honoured with the Dedicated/Discipline Award.
The ceremony was a testament to the Ubuntu Queens’ collective spirit and individual talents, setting the stage for a promising season ahead.
