ZIMBABWE Cricket Men’s National Team is gearing up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa qualifier Group B with an ideal blend of youth and experience in their Kenya-bound squad.
Group B will feature Kenya, Gambia, Mozambique, Seychelles and Rwanda and the African teams will lock horns from 19 – 24 October.
In their bid to earn a place in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the Chevrons have undergone rigorous preparation over the past month, with three weeks of camps and a week of training with the final squad that will be travelling to Kenya.
The Zimbabwean contingent will also feature two uncapped players, namely Tashinga Musekiwa, all-rounder and right-arm fast bowler Tinotenda Maposa.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) Head Coach Justin Sammons expressed his satisfaction with the team’s preparation and stated that the expectation is to win every game.
Sammons emphasised the importance of respecting every opposition, regardless of their size or reputation.
“It’s not the person or the nation you’re playing, it’s bat versus ball. And we’ve got to go out there and execute our skills,” Sammons explained.
While the team has a long-term vision, their focus is on taking one step at a time. The coach reiterated that their focus is not on the opposition but on themselves and their processes.
“We understand the way we wanna (want to) play cricket now and just to go and make sure that we execute that,” Sammons said.
The coach is particularly excited about the young players in the squad and the balance they bring with their energy and enthusiasm. He also highlighted the importance of having experienced players in the team for the youngsters to learn from.
“I’m very excited about the youngsters in the squad and it’s nice that we do have a little bit of experience in and around them for them to feed off from. I think they bring a great energy that obviously sort of resonates throughout the squad,” added the Chevrons Head Coach.
“And then obviously it’s nice to be able to balance it with those senior players, sort of a little bit more experience. It’s a lovely blend.”
Zimbabwe Cricket is well-prepared and focused for the T20 World Cup qualifiers, with a balanced squad that combines the energy and enthusiasm of youth with the experience and wisdom of seasoned players.
Their focus is on executing their skills and sticking to their processes while respecting every opposition they come up against.
