Zimbabwe Fall Short in 255-Run Chase as West Indies Run Riot in Mumbai

THE Super Eight match between the West Indies cricket team and the Zimbabwe national cricket team was played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 23 February. 

Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to field first. West Indies put on a powerful batting display, scoring 254 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. In response, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 147 runs in 17.4 overs, giving West Indies a dominant 107-run victory.

West Indies built their big total on outstanding batting performances. Shimron Hetmyer led the charge with a brilliant 85 runs off just 34 balls, hitting 7 fours and 7 sixes. Rovman Powell supported him well with 59 runs from 35 balls. 

Captain Shai Hope added 14 runs, while Sherfane Rutherford remained not out on 31. Jason Holder also made a quick 13 runs from only 4 balls. The team maintained an impressive run rate of 12.70 per over.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers worked hard but struggled to control the scoring. Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani claimed two wickets each, while Bradley Evans and Graeme Cremer took one wicket apiece. Despite their efforts, West Indies continued to score freely throughout the innings.

Chasing a difficult target of 255, Zimbabwe lost wickets early and never recovered. Gudakesh Motie delivered an excellent spell, taking 4 wickets for 28 runs. Akeal Hosein also bowled brilliantly, finishing with 3 wickets for 28 runs. 

Bradley Evans scored a fighting 43 runs, and Sikandar Raza contributed 27, but the total was too high. Zimbabwe were eventually all out for 147, sealing a convincing win for West Indies.
