Zimbabwean Boys to Celebrate International Day of the Boy Child

AS the world marks the International Day of the Boy Child on May 16, a dynamic network of Zimbabwean organisations is coming together to host a special event for boys aged 9-18 on May 24.

Organised by the Precious Children’s Arts Organisation (PICA) in collaboration with partners like the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, SAYWHAT, and Childline Zimbabwe, the event promises to be a day packed with education, inspiration, and fun.

Under the bold theme “From Boys to Men,” the day will feature motivational talks from respected male role models who will share stories of resilience and purpose. Boys will also engage in life skills and health sessions on topics like identity, emotions, and mental wellness, tailored to different age groups to encourage open dialogue.

In addition to the educational components, the event will include self-defence training, team-building activities, and a movie screening curated by SAYWHAT. To top it off, there will be a celebratory lunch where the boys can network with mentors and simply enjoy being boys on their special day.

The International Day of the Boy Child was declared in 2018 to bring awareness to the unique challenges boys face and the importance of supporting their holistic development. This year’s theme, “Boys and Mental Health,” is a timely call to action as issues like depression and suicide among young men continue to rise globally.

Parents and guardians can register their boys to be part of this empowering celebration on May 24.
