ZIMBABWE’s Health Ministry has quashed rumours of a Covid-19 comeback, saying the current wave of flu cases is nothing out of the ordinary. Spokesperson Donald Mujiri told The Herald that with around 3,000 influenza cases recorded so far, numbers are actually lower than expected for this time of year.
“There’s no cause for alarm,” Mujiri emphasised.
“We’re monitoring the situation closely, but the public should remain calm.” The ministry’s advice? Keep washing those hands, cover your mouth when coughing, and if you’re feeling unwell, stay home.
The fuss comes as Zimbabweans gear up for the traditional flu peak period between March and April. Mujiri urged citizens to be vigilant but not panicked.
“Current levels are manageable, but let’s protect ourselves and others,” he said.
With Covid-19 now treated like any other disease following WHO’s 2023 decision, the ministry’s focus is on keeping the flu season under control. As of November 2025, Zimbabwe recorded 316,064 influenza cases and 7 deaths.
