ISACA Harare Chapter donates to Chikurubi Female Prison inmates
THE Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Harare Chapter donated food items and sanitary wear to inmates at Chikurubi Female Prison on Saturday, as part of its International Community Outreach Day.
The nine-member delegation was led by Harare Chapter president Godwill Chihwayi and Clemence Chikombingo, the member who coordinated the prison visit.
The visit coincided with the observance of International Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which runs throughout October.
The delegation was accompanied by Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) deputy national public relations officer, Superintendent Solomon Mutamba. They were received at the facility by the senior officer on duty, Principal Correctional Officer Joyce Chisora.
Speaking on behalf of ISACA, Loice Ngulube said the association’s mission included promoting responsible use of technology.
“We are there to teach people to use technology responsibly. This is because everything that you do over the Internet leaves a footprint. You will not like to see some of the bad things that you used to do when you are older but the internet will always remind you about your past activities online,” Ngulube said.
She also spoke on the participation of women in the technology sector.
“Technology is a male dominated field but we are also seriously venturing into that domain,” she said.
Inmate Pauline Mazanhi thanked the association on behalf of the prisoners.
“We would like to thank ISACA for remembering us as prison inmates. Some of our relatives have since forgotten about us but you have found it worthwhile to come and visit us. May God bless you abundantly for your kind gesture,” Mazanhi said.
Members of the delegation said they were pleased to have fulfilled their wish of visiting a correctional facility and donating to inmates. They expressed hope of doing more for the inmates in future.
