St Georges College Sweeps to Volleyball Glory in South Africa

ST GEORGES College enjoyed a memorable weekend on the volleyball court, with the Harare school’s Boys’ team clinching gold at the 2026 ISSA Volleyball Festival while the Girls’ side also delivered a spirited campaign at the same event in South Africa.

The U19 Boys were the standout performers, going unbeaten through a demanding three-day tournament. Drawn in Group C alongside Michael Mount Waldorf, Fourways High School 2 and The Kings School West Rand, the Saints swept through pool play before knockout wins over WestView and Deutsche Internationale Schule (DSJ) booked their place in the final. There, they were made to work for it, edging Northwood School 3-2 in a five-set thriller to claim the gold medal and floating trophy. Northwood settled for silver, with Michael Mount taking bronze.
Godfrey Kaseke was among the tournament’s brightest talents, walking away with individual awards for Best Attacker and Best Server, a personal highlight in what was already a golden weekend for the school.
It was not just the boys flying the flag. The Girls’ team opened strongly with 2-0 wins over Pretoria High School 2 and Enjabulweni of Eswatini, before a tough loss to DSJ and a quarterfinal exit at the hands of Michael Mount. To their credit, the girls regrouped in the placement matches, closing out the festival with further 2-0 victories over Fourways 2 and St Dominic’s Chishawasha to finish the tournament on a positive note.
Both teams now head back to Harare having flown the flag high for Zimbabwean school sport on the regional stage, with the boys’ gold-medal run in particular set to be one of the highlights of the school sporting calendar this year.
