HAVENHILL Academy will bring aspiring accountants, students and finance professionals together on November 27 for its third ACCA Career Open Day and Graduation Day, an event aimed at helping Zimbabweans explore professional qualifications and career opportunities in accountancy.
The Harare-based institution, which holds Gold Approved Learning Partner status with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), will host the event under the theme, “Building Resilient and Relevant Chartered Accountants”.
The programme will run from 9am to 1pm, with admission free and open to the public.
The venue is yet to be announced.
The event combines career guidance with recognition of students who have completed their studies, bringing together those beginning their professional journeys and others celebrating academic achievements.
Havenhill Academy has increasingly focused on making professional accounting education accessible to school leavers, university graduates and working professionals seeking additional qualifications.
Its principal officer, Partson Nyatanga, has previously emphasised the importance of preparing students for opportunities beyond Zimbabwe.
In an earlier interview with NewsDay, Nyatanga explained that ACCA qualifications follow a common international examination structure, allowing students in Zimbabwe to work towards the same professional standards as their counterparts elsewhere.
That international recognition is one of the attractions of the qualification, particularly for young people considering careers in auditing, financial reporting, taxation and corporate finance.
The academy’s career guidance programmes also seek to address a practical challenge facing many prospective students: understanding how to enter the profession, choose appropriate qualifications and gain the experience needed to progress.
Havenhill has previously organised career awareness activities in communities and schools, including programmes in Chitungwiza and Harare’s western suburbs.
Its November event builds on those efforts by providing another opportunity for prospective students to engage with the institution and learn about professional accounting pathways.
The graduation component will recognise the progress of students who have completed their studies, while reinforcing the academy’s focus on academic achievement and career development.
Nyatanga has previously said professional accounting education must go beyond examination preparation to include practical experience and workplace readiness.
Havenhill also seeks attachment opportunities for its students, recognising that academic qualifications alone are not sufficient for full professional membership.
ACCA membership requires candidates to complete the relevant examinations, an ethics and professional skills component, and qualifying practical experience.
The November gathering will take place against this background, with its theme placing particular emphasis on accountants who can adapt to changing business requirements while maintaining professional standards.
