DELTA Beverages on Thursday handed over a community borehole in Mabvuku, Harare, fulfilling a prize commitment to Scottland FC for winning the 2026 Castle Lager Challenge Cup.
Under the competition’s prize structure, the winning club selects a community project for Delta to support. Scottland, who are also the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions, chose to have the borehole drilled in Mabvuku.
Delta Beverages Lagers general manager Lucky Nkunzane said the handover was part of an effort to link sporting success with community development.
“Through the Castle Lager Challenge Cup, we wanted our champions to extend their victory beyond the football field and into the community they serve,” Nkunzane said.
“This occasion is about more than commissioning a borehole. It demonstrates what can happen when sport, business and community come together for a common purpose, strengthening our communities and building brands that Zimbabweans can be proud of.”
Nkunzane said the project’s value would be measured by how long the facility remained in use.
“As we hand over this borehole, we recognise that sustainable community development is a shared responsibility. The true measure of today will not be the ceremony itself, but whether this borehole continues to serve families and the wider community for many years to come,” he said.
“We therefore encourage the Mabvuku community to take ownership of this facility, protect it and ensure that it serves as many people as possible.”
Scottland secretary-general Fortune Bgwoni explained how the project came about.
“Part of the prize entails having a borehole drilled in the community to help the community with water. And Delta have fulfilled that with a borehole that they have drilled here. And the handover has just been done now, which you have all witnessed,” Bgwoni said.
Mabvuku-Tafara legislator Pedzai Sakupwanya was represented by Bgwoni at the ceremony, which was also attended by Premier Soccer League chief executive Rodwell Thabe, Delta Beverages management and staff, Scottland officials and residents.
