History Beckons as The Heart Women Soccer League Tourney Explodes

THE Heart Women Soccer League Tournament is set to make history from September 18-22 as 16 teams strut to the field for the lucrative single elimination games at The Heart Stadium, Yadah Hotel, in Waterfalls, Harare.

This landmark tournament promises to be a game-changer for women’s soccer in the country, with all the teams vying for the top prize of $10,000, a trophy, and gold Medals. The second and third placed teams gets $5000 and $3000 respectively.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) has left no stone unturned in their preparations, with a leadership workshop already held for administrators and a series of meetings to ensure a seamless tournament.

The Heart Women Soccer League chairperson, Theresa Maguraushe, is thrilled to be at the forefront of this pioneering initiative.

“This tournament is a milestone for women’s soccer in Zimbabwe, and we’re proud to be leading the charge,” Maguraushe said.

“It’s time to celebrate our talented players and inspire a new generation of female footballers.”

In a bid to raise the bar, the tournament will introduce a scientific approach to determine individual award winners.

A Technical Sound Group, comprising league experts, will allocate points to players based on their match contributions, ensuring a fair and transparent process.

Tournament director Arthur Gorejena is confident that the event will be a resounding success.

“We are committed to making this tournament a world-class experience for players, officials, and fans. The Heart Women Soccer Knockout Championship is more than just a tournament – it’s a platform for empowering women in sports and inspiring future generations,” Gorejena explained.

The Heart Group, the tournament’s sponsor, has also thrown its weight behind the initiative, booking accommodation for all participating teams at the Yadah Hotel for the duration of the tournament, regardless of their performance.

“We are proud to support this pioneering initiative, promoting women’s soccer and community development,”
Wellington Mpandare, the tournament’s general manager emphasised.

“It aligns perfectly with our values and commitment to empowering women.”

With all logistical and technical aspects in place, the focus now shifts to the teams as they prepare to battle it out for the top prize.

The Heart Women Soccer Knockout Championship is poised to be an electrifying representation of women’s soccer talent in Zimbabwe.
