DRAVENTAL Car Hire & Tours is using its inaugural golf tournament to bring businesses together while raising support for youth skills development and digital empowerment.
The Dravental Golf Day, scheduled for September 3 at Wingate Golf Club in Harare, will be held under the theme, “Powering the Future, Driving Impact”, with organisers positioning the event as more than a sporting competition.
The tournament is expected to bring together corporates, entrepreneurs, professionals and golfers, with proceeds supporting programmes being implemented through Momentous Academy.
Dravental chief executive officer Dr Maureen Mbondiah said the company intended to make the golf day an annual platform for business networking and social impact.
“This is our inaugural golf tournament, as we do plan to be having this each and every year,” Mbondiah said.
She said the tournament was designed to demonstrate how business networks and resources could be channelled towards community development.
“It will not be simply about who wins on the course. It will be about what we can achieve off the course,” she said.
Mbondiah said Dravental believed the private sector had an important role in creating opportunities for young people and supporting entrepreneurship.
“We want to encourage a culture where businesses do not only compete, but collaborate. Where successful entrepreneurs open doors for emerging entrepreneurs. Where partnerships create opportunities for young people,” she said.
A major beneficiary of the initiative will be Momentous Academy, which has been providing vocational training, entrepreneurship support and digital skills development, particularly for young women.
Mbondiah said the academy had already trained more than 200 young women through its programmes and was seeking to broaden access to technology and digital education.
“We want to create an environment where a young girl who may not have access to a computer today can have the opportunity to learn, to develop digital skills, and dream bigger for tomorrow,” she said.
Momentous Academy chief executive officer Albert Masaka said the organisation’s work was centred on addressing the gap between talent and opportunity.
“Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not,” Masaka said.
He said the academy equips young people, women and entrepreneurs with practical skills to improve their prospects in employment and business.
“In the last year alone, we have trained hundreds of young people and women in digital literacy and entrepreneurship,” Masaka said.
“We have supported small businesses to take their products online. We have helped youth to apply for jobs, learn online, and access resources beyond their community.”
Masaka said digital access had become increasingly important as employment, education and commerce continued to move online.
“In 2026, jobs are now applied for online. Businesses are marketed online. Learning happens online. Without access, talent remains invisible to the future,” he said.
The academy is proposing the establishment of the Momentous Academy ICT Hub for Tourism, which is expected to provide digital literacy, online learning, job-search and CV support, entrepreneurship and digital marketing training.
Masaka described the proposed facility as a bridge between skills and opportunity.
“This is not just a computer system. It is a bridge from potential to possibility, from talent to impact,” he said.
He called on corporates and other partners to contribute equipment, connectivity, funding and mentorship to the initiative.
“Let us have a special focus: Let’s ensure our girls and women know that tech is not someone else’s domain. It is theirs,” Masaka said.
The golf tournament will also provide an opportunity for companies to network and explore partnerships, with organisers hoping to establish the event as a fixture on the corporate calendar.
Individual participation has been pegged at US$50, while a four-ball costs US$200. Sponsorship opportunities include a US$1 000 gin tent sponsorship, US$300 hole sponsorship and US$200 four-ball sponsorship.
The payment deadline has been set for August 31.
Mbondiah urged companies, golfers and entrepreneurs to support the initiative.
“To the golfers, we invite you to come and enjoy the tournament. To the corporates, we invite you to bring your teams. To entrepreneurs, come and network,” she said.
“Because when we come together, our collective impact is greater than what any one organisation can achieve alone.”
