Life inspires my music, says Spucky B

POLAND-based Zimbabwean Afro beat and Hip hop sensation musician Keith “Spucky B” Antonio says life stories are the mainstay of any successful song, especially if one sings them in a language they fully grasp and understand.

Spucky B, 25, who is known for her tunes Tapinda Summer, Tura Chirongo and Unoda mari featuring Jah Master has become a darling in Poland for her exquisite music, often being likened to Winky D.

Artistes such as Freeman, Killer T, The late Soul Jah Love and Winky D, according to Spucky B, have had successful careers as they sing about life experiences as well as issues which affect society.

“You can relate to what Winky D, Freeman and Killer T sing about as their music tells a story of what they have been through and what happens in society on a daily basis,” Spucky B said.

The artiste, who has one BBC Africa Radio FM gong to her name, said in order to make it in the music industry, local up-and-coming artistes needed to be original and not feel pressured into imitating other successful artistes.

“I appreciate what fellow musicians are trying to do back home, but they should stick to singing songs in Zimbabwean local languages they fully understand.

“I personally believe the goal is not about just making music. In Europe, there is language barrier, the vibe is totally different from what we do.

“As they might appreciate what we do one has to believe there are a few things to consider, that is working with best producers, networking with music guru for the particular genre and a lot more,” said the Huya Ex hit-maker.

Looking into the future Spucky B, who last performed in Harare in December last year, said he recently dropped a track titled “World at large” produced by Ougwei beats, and its doing well in Poland.

“The single is doing well and there’re many people who love it here and in Zimbabwe. The song “Tura Chirongo” I hear its doing well that side. I’ll have to monitor its performance before I release another one,” said Spucky B.

He said growing up listening to the late Soul Jah Love and Winky D, narrate stories about the Streets of Harare in most of his songs inspired him to write the love song “Tura Chirongo” which has been received well by music lovers.

“The song Tura Chirongo was inspired by Winky D and late Soul Jah Love whose music is popular with anyone associated with Zimbabwean music as he sang about things that were associated with the city of Harare and Zimbabwe as a whole,” said Khumalo.

“I did the same with Tura Chirongo as the song is about two love birds dating to marriage that is one partner covers the weakness of another partner in a relationship.”

Spucky B, who is currenty studying Accounting Degree with University of Economics and Human Sciences in Warsaw, Poland, said he was planning to study music as he wants to enhance his skills as a musician.

“I’m planning to study music because I believe that if I’m going to take music as a full time career I should learn more about it. My talent alone isn’t enough, there needs to be a secondary skill that can complement it,” said Spucky B.

The Harare-born Afro fusion artiste has worked with famous producers such as Angeo Pablo and Oskid productions. To his name he has released three albums and 4 singles including the recently released “World at Large” and “Tura Chirongo.”

A video for World at Large, will be released online at the end of this month. It will be available for viewing on YouTube and music channels such as Channel O in South Africa.
