ZIFA has terminated the contract of Warriors coach Michael Nees with immediate effect, following a string of poor performances that saw the team finish bottom in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Nees, who took over in July 2024, had pledged to rebuild and modernize Zimbabwe’s style of play, but his tenure was marked by disappointing results, including defeats to Lesotho, Rwanda, Benin, and South Africa, as well as draws against Nigeria, Benin, and Rwanda.
ZIFA has expressed gratitude for Nees’ efforts and contributions to Zimbabwean football, acknowledging his dedication to the game and service to national structures. The association remains committed to strengthening its technical development programs and ensuring continued progress in all areas of the game.
Key Highlights:
Poor Performance: Nees managed only two wins in 14 matches, with six draws and six defeats.
AFCON Concerns: The Warriors are set to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations
Sharing on Facebook, Zifa showed gratitude for the work Nees did.
