Muguti warns against threats, says he’s not afraid to speak out

PERMANENT Secretary for Presidential Affairs and Devolution, Tafadzwa Muguti, has warned against threats, saying he will not be intimidated into silence.

In a strongly-worded statement, Muguti asserted his authority and defended the government’s stance on alluvial mining, saying cabinet had made a directive to ban the practice.

Muguti said he was not afraid to speak out against the plundering of the country’s resources, and warned that those involved would face consequences.

“The government is being plundered, the president is being plundered, and we are going to have a lot of problems,” he said.

He emphasised that he was a civil servant who knew the rules and would not be swayed by threats or intimidation.

“I’m not talking about death threats, I’m not talking about going to jail, I’m talking about doing what’s right,” he said.

Muguti also clarified that the ban on alluvial mining was a cabinet decision, and that he would ensure it was enforced. He warned that those who continued to engage in the practice would be dealt with, saying “if you aim for me, you better not miss”.

The statement has been seen as a sign of the government’s determination to tackle corruption and illegal mining, and Muguti’s willingness to speak out against powerful interests.
