ZRP arrests five in separate explosives possession cases across Zimbabwe
THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in separate cases involving the unlawful possession of explosives, with incidents recorded in mining areas, growth points and urban centres across the country.
In the first case, three men were arrested on 8 May 2026 at Stella City F12 Mine in Kezi after police recovered explosive materials at the site. The suspects, Reason Sibanda (49), Zibusiso Sibanda (28) and Prosper Chaora (41), were found in possession of explogels and a safety cord. Police said the materials are commonly used in blasting operations and are strictly controlled due to their high risk nature.
In a separate incident on the same day, Fungai Kanyasa (44) was arrested at Guyu Business Centre in Maramba, Murewa. He was allegedly found in possession of emulates and igniting fuses, items linked to the initiation of explosive devices.
Meanwhile, police in Kwekwe arrested Munyaradzi Mbizi (36) on 9 May 2026 after he was allegedly found with detonator fuses, in what authorities say forms part of ongoing enforcement against illegal handling of explosive materials.
The ZRP said the arrests reflect continued efforts to curb the misuse and illegal possession of dangerous substances, particularly in mining and related sectors where such materials are sometimes diverted for unlawful use.
Investigations are ongoing in all cases, with police warning that firm action will be taken against anyone found in possession of explosives without authorisation.
