Shingayi Dance Group Wins Harare Chibuku Neshamwari Finals

SHINGAYI Dance Group walked away with the top prize at the Harare provincial finals of the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival held at Werras Park in Glen View 1 on Saturday.

The group won first prize after impressing judges with its Mbakumba dance performance. For their victory, Shingayi Dance Group received US$2,500 and secured a place at the national finals.

Pasichigare Dance Group came second with its energetic Muchongoyo dance and received US$1,500 in prize money.

Karingezuva Dance Group finished third after performing the Chinyambera dance and took home US$1,000.

The festival attracted large crowds who gathered to enjoy traditional music, drumming, and dance performances from different groups across Harare.

The Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival is one of Zimbabwe’s biggest cultural events and aims to promote and preserve the country’s rich cultural heritage.

The three winning groups showcased different traditional dances, highlighting the diversity of Zimbabwean culture and traditions.

Shingayi Dance Group will now represent Harare at the national finals scheduled for July 11, where the country’s provincial champions will compete for the grand prize of US$15,000. The second and third prizes at the national finals are US$10,000 and US$7,500, respectively.

The festival is organised by Delta Beverages in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association.
