Project 25 Steps In to Support 40 Learners on African Child Day

PROJECT 25 will provide 40 pairs of new school shoes to vulnerable learners in Zvimba and Binga this weekend as part of its efforts to mark the Day of the African Child.

Twenty pairs of shoes will be donated to learners at Suncrown School in Zvimba, while another 20 pairs will be handed over to pupils at Nakaluba School in Binga. The Binga donation had initially been scheduled for June 16 but was postponed to the weekend due to logistical challenges.

Project organisers said the two districts were selected because they are often overlooked in development programmes despite facing significant needs.

The initiative forms part of a broader campaign aimed at improving access to education by addressing one of the basic challenges faced by many children.

“Through the provision of school shoes, we are helping remove barriers to education and empowering children to step confidently into their future,” said Project 25 Co-Founder Ruva Dahwa.

The latest donation brings the total number of shoes distributed by the organisation this year to 45 pairs. Project 25 is targeting 250 pairs by the end of the year as it seeks to help more children attend school with dignity, confidence and improved safety.

Founded in 2020 through the merger of Feed Zim, Vaka Dzidzo and Lend A Hand, Project 25 focuses on supporting children through education, healthcare and food security programmes.

Beyond the school shoe campaign, the organisation has also been involved in other community initiatives. In February, it assisted 16 teenage mothers in Bulawayo with preparation packages aimed at supporting them and their children.

Project 25 is appealing for additional partners and donations to help expand the school shoe programme and reach more vulnerable learners across Zimbabwe.
