NETONE has taken another major step in bringing modern healthcare closer to communities after officially launching a Telemedicine Virtual Hospital at Mukamba Primary School in Mhangura District, in partnership with ZimSmart Villages.
The new facility offers residents easy access to affordable digital healthcare services, allowing patients to consult qualified doctors in real time without travelling long distances. Through the virtual hospital, the community can now access essential medication, emergency admissions, X-ray services and other key medical care, providing a reliable first point of treatment in an area where health facilities are limited.
The initiative relies on trained community health workers, known as Madumeni eHutano, as well as mobile health personnel, to ensure that no one is left behind. For residents who are elderly, ill or unable to travel, the programme also provides home-based virtual consultations, making healthcare more accessible and inclusive.
Speaking on behalf of the NetOne Group Chief Executive, Thamsanqa Luphahla from Public Relations said the project is part of the company’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility efforts aimed at uplifting marginalised communities. He said the programme supports the national vision of leaving no place and no one behind, while contributing to Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which prioritises innovation and technology as drivers of sustainable development.
The Telemedicine Virtual Hospital programme has now been rolled out in 26 districts across the country, with Mhangura becoming the latest beneficiary. NetOne noted that the initiative is a brainchild of Her Excellency the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Amai Mnangagwa, whose leadership continues to champion people-centred and inclusive healthcare solutions.
The launch was attended by the Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Douglas Mombeshora, underscoring government support for digital health innovations that are transforming lives and improving access to quality healthcare across Zimbabwe.
