Dapuraunanzva, Chipolopolo Dance Their Way to Chibuku Neshamwari Provincial Titles

THE race to the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival national finals gathered momentum over the weekend as dance groups from Manicaland and Midlands provinces battled for top honours in their respective provincial competitions.

At the Manicaland provincial finals held in Watsomba on June 20, Dapuraunanzva Dance Ensemble emerged victorious after delivering an impressive Mbakumba dance performance that captivated both judges and spectators.

MANSA finished in second place with its energetic Chinyambera dance, while Chihomva Dance Group claimed third position after showcasing the traditional Zhana dance.

The top three groups received cash prizes of US$2,500, US$1,500 and US$1,000 respectively and secured their place among the province’s leading traditional dance ensembles.

In the Midlands provincial finals, Chipolopolo Zambia Nyau of Kwekwe claimed first prize after producing a lively Zambia Nyau performance that earned praise from the judges and the crowd.

Mhukahuru Dance Group from Gweru finished second, while Zikuvave Gure of Kwekwe settled for third place in another highly competitive contest.

The provincial competitions attracted large crowds as communities gathered to celebrate Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage through traditional music, drumming and dance.

The winning groups now advance in the journey towards the national finals, where they will compete against champions from other provinces for the overall title and the grand prize of US$15,000.

The Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, organised by Delta Beverages in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association, remains one of the country’s biggest cultural showcases and continues to play a key role in preserving and promoting Zimbabwe’s traditional dances.

With the provincial competitions nearing completion, attention is now turning to the national finals, where the country’s finest traditional dance groups will battle for ultimate honours.
