HIGHLANDERS showed the fighting spirit their supporters have come to expect, digging deep to snatch a 1-1 draw away at FC Platinum in a fiercely contested Castle Premier Soccer League clash at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane on Saturday.
The Bulawayo side started the game on the front foot, pressing for an early breakthrough, and though FC Platinum struck first through Oscar Bhebhe in the 16th minute, Bosso refused to be knocked out of their stride.
Just 10 minutes later, the response came. A slick passing move between Kudakwashe Mahachi and Benjamin Adeogun tore open the home side’s defence, Mahachi’s driving run set up Adeogun, who was upended in the box for a clear penalty. Adeogun dusted himself off and confidently converted from the spot, sending Highlanders into the break on level terms.
The second half saw both sides make changes as they searched for a winner, with Highlanders’ bench playing its part in helping the team see out a battling point on the road. Substitutions from both camps added fresh legs and energy, but ultimately neither side could find a way through in a tightly fought contest that went to the wire, with three added minutes played at the death.
A share of the spoils in Zvishavane is a solid result for a Highlanders side that continues to show resilience and quality on their travels. With Adeogun once again proving reliable from the penalty spot and the team’s ability to respond quickly after falling behind, there’s plenty for Bosso faithful to be encouraged by as the season continues.
Highlanders will now look to build on this character-filled away performance as they turn their attention to their next league assignment.
