ZIMBABWE captain Mary-Anne Musonda has retired from international cricket after leading Zimbabwe Women through a key growth period.
The former captain, who took charge in 2018, says the job was bigger than wins and losses. “We were laying a foundation for the next generation,” Musonda said. “Every game mattered.”
Musonda played for Rhinos at home and also holds a Master’s degree from the University of Cape Town. Now she wants to focus on helping young girls get into cricket.
“The real legacy is impact,” she said. “If more girls are playing in schools, then we’ve done our job.”
Her message to young players: “Don’t wait for permission to dream big.”
Zimbabwe Cricket Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani called her “a true servant of Zimbabwe Cricket and a pioneer for the women’s game”, adding her leadership “left an indelible mark”.
