THE 2026 Zimbabwe Tertiary Sports Games opened on Wednesday, with Sable Lager taking centre stage at a colourful ceremony celebrating youth and the future of Zimbabwean sport.
Delta Beverages, through its Sable Lager brand, used the event to reaffirm its support for emerging talent, positioning the Games as a platform for young athletes across the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Delta Beverages Marketing Manager for Lagers Kundayi Pamela Mawema described the occasion as the start of a new chapter for both the Games and the brand’s role in tertiary sport.
“We are proud to stand here as the new face of this sponsorship at a time when the Games themselves are evolving,” Mawema said.
“This transition to ZITS reflects progress, ambition, and the future—values that define both Sable Lager and the athletes gathered here.”
The rebranded Zimbabwe Tertiary Sports Games, formerly known as the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union, have attracted students from institutions across the country eager to showcase their talent.
Mawema said Sable Lager’s involvement goes beyond sponsorship and represents an investment in young Zimbabweans.
“These Games are more than competition. They are about resilience, friendship, and the courage to dream big,” she said.
“Every performance we witness here is a reminder that Zimbabwe’s future is bright.”
She commended the athletes for balancing academics and sport and urged them to make the most of the opportunity.
“You carry the hopes of your institutions, your families, and your communities. This is your platform run with passion, play with pride, and cherish every moment,” Mawema said.
The ceremony brought together sports officials, coaches and supporters to celebrate the role of sport in building character and unity.
